Position Profile: Manager of Resource Planning for a Major Investor Owned Utility

Company Background: Our client is a $5.6 billion fast growing regulated/unregulated energy company engaged in natural gas transmission, gathering, storage and distribution, as well as electric generation, transmission and distribution.

This Manager Role requires a minimum 5 years’ experience in utility resource planning, fundamental market analysis, system operations or other related work experience with in-depth knowledge of resource planning and modeling. Demonstrated ability organizing and maintaining large amounts of data from various sources; Providing leadership and direction to multidisciplinary work groups across organizational lines, and developing recommendations that influence decisions or policies regarding long-term strategy or related issues; and Expected to coordinate modeling efforts with short-term dispatch, transmission planning and other teams across the utility as part of an integrated and multidisciplinary analysis effort.

Responsibilities:

Ѳ As part of the Strategic Planning group, this position will manage long-term utility modeling and analysis activities to support a broad range of Strategic Planning initiatives including resource planning, generation strategy and other related regulatory and strategic initiatives.

Ѳ The Resource Planning Manager will develop, implement, coordinate and maintain models and information necessary to forecast long-term gas and electric supply and demand fundamentals to assist in identifying long-term resource needs, analyzing market behaviors and evaluating alternatives.

Ѳ The successful candidate will assist in the development of Integrated Resource Planning (IRP) plans, reports and develop and provide supporting information — including testimony — in support of immediate and longer-term, planning-related regulatory filings.

Ѳ This professional will support energy strategies, and policy recommendations, and prepare and make presentations to the IRP team, utility management, customers and other stakeholders on resource planning and other utility issues and initiatives.

Ѳ This successful candidate will manage and supervise the work of long-term modeling staff and assemble necessary resources, information and processes to accomplish essential functions; the role will report to the Director of Strategic Planning.

Compensation: Competitive Base & Incentive Pay with a total compensation package with base range of $100-120K + bonus and incentive pay – ranging from 7.5% – 22.5% + savings plans, health, dental and life insurance and a rich corporate relocation. Annual performance reviews and bonus plan targets are set based on individual, team, business and corporate performance against budget and specific goals.

Desired Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field like Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, Economics, Finance or Business. Advanced degree and/or MBA preferred.

Desired Competencies:

Ѳ Strong analytical capabilities, communication skills both oral and written, and the ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds, skills and experience. Experience in preparing presentations to facilitate communication with senior management is desired. Proficient with electric utility planning and modeling tools (e.g. PROMOD, STRATEGIST, etc.); gas utility planning and modeling experience is a plus.
