System Operator

Minimum Reqs – 3-5years in System Operations, Distribution and/or Transmission Operations.

NERC Certification at RC or TO level + PJM Transmission Operator Certification preferred and required within 6 months.

Education: AA degree in Engineering; BS EE preferred or 10-15 years’ operating experience. Military Service preferred. Technically competent and proficient in all dimensions of system operations.

Must be able to discern what is needed for real time safe reliable Operations. When acting as linking pin and communications point of contact with outside regulators from Reliability First, NERC or PJM and be able to discern what is being communicated, what pertains to the muni for immediate action and what is for information only? Able to coordinate with operations and compliance to assure effective training.

System Operations Supervisor must be able effectively document events, trouble items and to communicate with other operators, distribution and engineering teams to prioritize work, and to identify trouble issues for resolution. Must be able to coach, mentor and lead other operators, technically and to help them achieve and maintain competence, confidence and capabilities. Make recommendations for improving processes and systems as needed for safe reliable real time operations.

Ө This is a working supervisor role able to manage shifts on his/her own, and to coach and demonstrate proper work practices and procedures.Be capable and available to answer technical questions from Operations and Distribution personnel for resolution.

Ө This is the go to person in coordinating system needs with SCADA and Distribution and engineering, interconnected company representatives, and vendors.

Must understand regulatory requirements and will interface as a subject matter expert (SME) with Compliance Manager, Manager of Ops, Leadership and outside regulators periodically as needed.

Project Management – must be able to develop and implement project plans as needed related to compliance, operations, engineering and system upgrades.

Ө This role will traditionally work a conventional day schedule but be available for training and coordination of activities on all shifts to assure safe reliable 24-7 operations and compliance.

Ө Must possess the skills and leadership capabilities to effectively function as part of the Dispatch team during major system events, trouble events and follow operating procedures, as needed, to provide on-going system operations excellence.

Must have the team playership, interpersonal and communications skills to work with existing processes, personnel and systems with a commitment to continuous improvement while balancing real time operation’s needs, budgetary constraints and political realities. Capable, committed and competent.
